Performance of TCP traffic in Bluetooth piconets: a queueing theoretic analysis

چکیده
Recent updates of the Bluetooth specification have introduced significant changes in the Bluetooth protocol stack, including optional flow control. When the Bluetooth piconet is used to carry TCP traffic, complex interactions between TCP congestion control mechanisms and data link layer controls of Bluetooth will occur. In this paper, we model the performance of the piconet with TCP traffic, expressed through segment loss probability, round-trip time, and goodput, through both probabilistic analysis and discrete-event simulations. We show that satisfactory performance for TCP traffic may be obtained through proper dimensioning of the Bluetooth architecture parameters.

Performance of Bluetooth piconets with finite size buffers: a queueing theoretic analysis
We analyze the performance of E-limited scheduling in Bluetooth piconets under bursty traffic finite buffer case. We model joint probability distributions of uplink and downlink queues using the M [x]/G/1/K model with vacations and derive buffer blocking probabilities at slaves and at the master. We also derive access delays at slave uplink buffers. Analytical results are validated through simu...
متن کاملBridges of Bluetooth county: topologies, scheduling, and performance
The performance of two Bluetooth piconets linked through a shared device is analyzed using the tools of queueing theory. We analyze both possible topologies: the master/slave (MS) bridge, in which the shared device is the master in one of the piconets and a slave in the other, and the slave/slave (SS) bridge, where the shared device is the slave in both piconets. Two scheduling policies, limite...
متن کاملAdaptive Management of Bluetooth Slave/Slave Bridge
This paper discusses the minimization of end-to-end delays in a small Bluetooth scatternet with a Slave/Slave bridge. We assume that both piconets operate under exhaustive scheduling policy, that slaves generate packet bursts, that burst arrivals follow Poisson distribution, and that the size of packet bursts follows geometric distribution. Using the theory of queues with vacations, we investig...
متن کاملRendezvous scheduling in Bluetooth scatternets
Bluetooth scatternets are formed by interconnecting Bluetooth piconets in an ad-hoc fashion and consists typically of the handheld electronic devices from one or more user(s). Thus, scatternets may be used to form and interconnect adhoc Bluetooth personal area networks (PANs). The inter-piconet Bluetooth units, i.e. the gateways interconnecting the piconets in a scatternet, need to time divisio...
متن کاملPolling and Bridge Scheduling Algorithms in Bluetooth
This report presents a brief overview and classification of intra-piconet polling schemes for Bluetooth piconets. It also presents a similar overview and classification of bridge scheduling algorithms for Bluetooth scatternets. Some additional issues, in particular the transmission of TCP/IP traffic over Bluetooth, and segmentation and reassembly policies, are discussed as well.
